This painting is based on a photo I took while on safari in Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. Lilac-breasted rollers are considered among the most beautiful birds in the world and are the national bird of both Kenya and Botswana. Their iridescent feather colors look absolutely stunning when they are flying. Their average length is 14.5" with a wingspan of between 20"-23" and the genders do not have a marked difference in appearance.
