We often take our Nashville visitors to tour the plantation and its beautiful grounds. On the day I took the photo that this painting is based upon, I was there with my San Francisco Bay Area cousin Luna Salaver.
Despite its peaceful appearance today, the plantation house served as a field hospital for hundreds of dying Confederate soldiers during the Civil War's bloody Battle of Franklin (https://boft.org/carnton).
