Burano Island, Venice, Italy
Painting #1 - March 28, 2018
water soluble oil on canvas 36"W x 48"H
framed
In the fall of 2016, my husband Russell and I, along with his brother Ethan and wife Brenda, went on a Mediterranean cruise. This painting is based on one of my photos from the trip. One of the sites we visited was Burano Island, which is part of Venice, Italy. The island is known for its lace-making as well as for its colorful buildings, which really appealed to me.
In painting these buildings, in addition to the bright colors, I particularly enjoyed working on the shadows from the roof overhangs as well as the tops and sides of the windows, which helped to give the painting dimension.
